Moving to MS Exchange from Lotus Domino - Random notes of a system administrator

From Random notes of a system administrator

...since most of our customers are interested on the benefits on moving to Exchange from Domino mail environment to Exchange. Even though this will be a cost factor initially long term the ROI really going to help them to streamline the business productivity. We found most of our customers are having hard time maintaining Domino environment as well as support wise.

hehehe, no comments

Yeah, I hear that a lot too, and worked at many companies that say it is hard to have good resources for
Notes and Domino, so the switch to Exchange is often the solution to this problem. I have to say that I heard horror stories though: once on Exchange, some companies started to have serious network intrusions and virus issues.

I think that the key thing is that if you use Notes only for email, it is probably a bit more trouble than Exchange. But it can do so much more and often, that what companies don't realize. I (re)lived that story again very recently and although we are going through rough economic times, the company decided to go ahead with Sharepoint (new licenses to buy) and converting Notes applications to .Net (I was involved in one conversion, and I can't see the logic in there: lots of $$$ to end up having a bit less functionality than the original, and you lose deployment speed - you can't do a refresh design in .Net!!!).

Where is IBM's marketing department when you need it!!!

Cheers,
