VmWare and Domino 8.5 and perfomance - Any concerns?

A client of mine is having major performance issues with Vmware 3.5 and Domino 8.5. The CPU is almost always at 100%. Nserver is consuming the major part and NRouter too.

Is there any known concerns related to VmWare 3.5 and Domino 8.5?
Is there any limitations (ex:Max number of users)?
Any special configuration to know about?

Other than that:

Two items I have read lately:

Disable the balloning driver (memory manager) for the virtual machine and ensure that you don't have too many domino servers running on the same esx as domino us quite I/O (network and disk) hungry.

If a process consumes 100% it could be either a bug or that there is too little memory available.

I would try increasing the memory for the VM. If that dont work i would try to reinstall Domino 8.5. Maybe put on a fixpack (a fixpack for 8.5 will be out this month) and hope for the best.

More info on this topic in this technote:

Poor performance of Domino HTTP server on VMware ESX 3.0 and 3.5

Domino HTTP under heavy load is an issue with VMWare also.

Hi,

I had a simular issue with R7 Cluster on VMserver 2. Beside this the Network (ping) was quite slow. After moving to esxi and resetting the network adapters it is now back to fine. So the network is worth to check.

Question: Domino R801 was running ahead of system time on a quadcore VMserver - What is your status with 8.5 - does the Domino time now sync ? (as in R7)
